I have found myself thinking a lot about family lately - what it means to be family... what it means to have family. Getting married means introducing new family members into your life. I have been exceedingly fortunate on that front, my wife's family has welcomed me without reservation, and as a result my life has been immeasurably better for it.
The last time I saw my new Uncle Sohail, his lovely wife Samina requested that I make a portrait of them. Knowing that opportunity would only present itself in the lead-up to our wedding, I cobbled together a rather sparse kit and wedged it into my luggage, between wedding garments, and other more urgent sundries.
We found some time to set up in my mother-in-law's living room and create some portraits that I am really happy with... pictures that I hope will make them happy for years to come. Sohail and Samina are a very easy couple to make portraits of... they're nearly always smiling, very easy to direct, and are very clearly in love with each other. I was honored to have the opportunity to work with them. I am even more honored to call them my family.
