On September 28, 2022 Hurricane Ian made landfall in Fort Myers, Florida. The destruction and devastation from the storm in that area is well chronicled. My hometown of Bradenton was largely fortunate. Making landfall to the south meant most of the storm surge and damage missed Bradenton. But Hurricane Ian was one of the new breed of storms powered by climate change. These more powerful storms don’t really spare anyone.

A month later, I visited my hometown and saw firsthand how much damage can result from even a “fortunate” outcome with these destructive storms. I realized that these shopping centers and plazas now literally displayed warning signs for how perilous our environmental future may become.
